Funmi Martins was a beautiful lady who was previously a model before settling for a Career as an Artist. She quickly made fame in her acting career as she featured in a Movie 'Nemesis' before finally establishing her name in Nollywood in movies like Pelumi, Eto mi, Eru Eleru and others.
Funmi Martins had two children for his First Husband- Mide Martins and Ayo Martin before the couple divorced. She gave birth to her third Child and last child Akanbi Ayomipo Peters for Popular Singer, Sir Shina Peters in 2002.
2002 was a dreadful Year for the Yoruba Movie industry as Funmi Martins who was supposed to be 49 years old in May 2002 died in a hospital after complaining of dizziness. It was later confirmed that She died of Cardiac Arrest, Just 2 month after she gave birth to her last Child.
2002 was the same year Yoruba Industry lost Rebecca Adebimpe Adekola Popularly known as Ireti to the Cold hand of death. 2002 really was a bad year in Yoruba Movie Industry.
How Her Death Pushed Mide Martins Into Acting
Mide Martins never for once thought she could act until she lost her mother to the Cold hands of death. She instantly gets the urge to act and take up her mother's name. She vow the name Martin would remain and continue to be on everyone's lips. Ever since then, Mide Martins has been keeping to her promise, and she always thanked God for helping her all the way.
Mide Martins and her mother was very close, and she disclosed in one of her interview how her mother was her best friend, her confidant, and she always told her everything, including her first boyfriend. She also said the name Martins was her mother's (Funmi Stage Name) and she continues to use the name to keep her promise.
Mide Martins is really keeping to her words. The name "Martins" would forever live on the fan's lips.
